The ideas some people think are smart.

Apparently, in certain African communities (including cities), in order to try and stop people raping their daughters or stealing for people trade, concerned mothers are mutilating their daughter's chests with hot rocks in an attempt to make them less attractive.

This is dangerous. Literally. It increases breast cancer, can stuff with hormones, and probably doesn't feel to comfortable either.

Body mutilation in order to escape slavery and abuse isn't anything new. It happened in Africa, Asia and the Americas. I wouldn't be to surprised if ancient Celts used something similar to make their women less comely to Saxons and other Viking invaders (but then again Vikings have been alleged to have a go at anything).

It also gives a credible argument FOR Muslim hijab. Muslim hijab isn't a health hazard. You might cry about women's rights and oppression - but the simple fact is that if something works, you might as well use it until you find something better that works. Educating males is an obvious alternative, but it doesn't necessarily work any better than hijab either (women wearing hijab certainly get raped too). A lot of people also forget is that a lot of people choose hijab, its not always thrust upon them.

Education of females is also an important part of abuse prevention. If you don't work on educating potential victims - you treat everyone as a potential predator and make victims feel less powerful because "there was nothing you could do". It's not blame, it's sensibility. Being female makes you a potential victim of violence against women. Being alive makes you a potential victim of murder. Having stuff makes you a potential victim of theft - that's why you learn you should lock your shit up.
