I Think you could bring it down to five:

1. Money
2. Anarchy
3. Revenge
4. Notoriety
5. Personal Agenda

I don't really think hoax-by-mistake really counts as a real hoax. You should probably own up to it unless you pick from the above reasons (or you aren't around anymore).

This probably applies to the motivation of any deliberate attempt at diseminating misinformation.
